Maximum precision, fully transparent processing, and features no analog circuit can offer: lookahead (the compressor sees the transient coming before it arrives), multiband processing (compress the low, mid and high bands independently), sidechain filtering, and fully recallable settings.
This is the compressor type for mastering, broadcast and any situation where accuracy matters more than coloration. In a typical electronic mastering chain – EQ into multiband compression into compressor into limiter into maximizer – digital compressors handle the dynamic control while loudness metering keeps you honest on LUFS and true peak targets.
